Transfer of Admin rights

    Hello WP forums,

    I am currently an editor on a site for a local community.

    I have been using this site to coordinate events and post pictures of our recent adventures. However, the admin has left our community without handing over her admin rights leaving me with limited access to change the theme or change plugins.

    I have attempted to contact the admin in order to get the admin rights, but my attempts have been met with great resistance. (Saying she doesn’t remember the password and being hostile when pressed)

    So here is my question:
    Is it possible to get the admin rights for the site without the approval of the current admin?

    It should be noted that current admin has no connection to the community at all any more and hasn’t been involved for about 5 years. I know what I’m trying to do is forcefully taking over the admin rights, but since I’m the only person in charge of the site now, I feel it’s only fair I get to change themes and plugins to my liking.

    Hi,

    So the short version is that you’ll need the current owner’s assistance to get this done. For obvious reasons, we don’t allow “hostile takeovers” even when things sound logical. As there is simply no way to prove that the story being told is the accurate one and not a genuine hostile action.

    It seems my admin has left the site leaving me with the rights as editor. According to her she no longer has access to the site. How can I gain the rights as admin without an admin to give me these rights?

    It’s impossible for a site hosted here at WordPress.com to not have an Administrator account, so they’re not being truthful with you as there are two users on the site: you and the Administrator.

    As such, they are the only ones who can give you Administrator access – this is not something Staff can do for you.
