Transfer of current blog to WordPress.com

Hi. I have a blog (80 posts at present, http://www.thehumansideofglobalwarming.com) hosted by Bluehost.com, and developed using WordPress.org. I am tired of the hassle of attempting to figure out the mechanics of maintaining the system. I simply want to write good content. Is it possible to transfer the site to WordPress.com (likely a Premium account or a business account) and have the site managed that way? What would it cost, both for transfer and for maintenance?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there,

Is it possible to transfer the site to WordPress.com (likely a Premium account or a business account) and have the site managed that way?

Absolutely! You can transfer your self-hosted site to WordPress.com by following this step-by-step tutorial: https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/view-all/

During this process, you’ll be able to select which plan you want.

What would it cost, both for transfer and for maintenance?

The transfer is free :) However, can you clarify what you mean about the “maintenance” part?

    Hope this helps!

The sign-up for subscribers does work well, and I have three kinds of issues (to follow). As well, I am not sure how to use the Yoast SEO plug-in. Basically I am a newbie as how to manage the blog, so any simplification would be most helpful.
I will look at the info you have provided, and follow the links. At the point, I will likely have further questions.

This is what I was about to write about subscribers.
I’ve been blogging seriously for about 4 months now (otherwise new to blogs), hosted by bluehost.com, and with some kind of interplay between wordpress.com and wordpress.org. I use Yoast SEO and have Jetpack 4.2.1, but not sure what other plug-ins (mainly because I am so unfamiliar with their functions).
I have encountered two or three kinds of problems with subscribers:
    1. Subscribers enrolled by myself, but they are not receiving posts. To test, I have subscribed to my own blog, twice, from different cloud accounts.
1a. The first time using my @icloud.com account, I received about 5 posts, and then none further.
1b. The second time (using a different email account, @gmail.com), I have received nothing.
    2. A number of subscriber have attempted to be listed, but even though their name shows up on my User list, they are not receiving posts.
    What do I do?

    Hi again,

The questions you are asking about SEO, plugins, and subscribers are great questions, but they pertain to your WordPress.ORG site. This forum addresses WordPress.COM sites, and they are quite different: https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

If you want to keep self-hosting your site and learn more about those particular features at WordPress.org, you could always ask in the WordPress.org forums.

The good news is that if you choose to transfer your site to WordPress.com, a lot of the mechanics surrounding site maintenance will mostly be taken care of and addressed. All WordPress.com themes are optimized for search engines, which makes it easy for them to discover your content. Also, the most popular plugin functionalities (such as site visits and stats, SEO, social media, etc.) are automatically included with your WordPress.com site. So, this makes maintenance fairly easy :)

Here are a couple of resources regarding SEO and search engines on WordPress.com if you’d like to take a look:

    https://en.blog.wordpress.com/2013/03/22/seo-on-wordpress-com/
    https://en.support.wordpress.com/search-engines/

Also, once you decide to make the transfer to WordPress.com, we can then take a look at your subscribers and see if we continue to have any problems.

    Hope this helps!

Hi. I’m totally confused. I went through the export/import sequence, but got a number of messages which seem to be error messages, but not clear:
    1. With Submit for Import, I got “Failed to create new user for (email visible only to moderators and staff). The posts will be attributed to the current user.” Presumably that’s me, dave.macq@icloud, or perhaps my user name of davemacquarrie.
This was followed by a list of imported media and posts, which seem to be correct.
    2. It ended with “All done. Remember to update the passwords and roles of imported users,” but it is not clear how to do so.

With all this, how do I determine if I am now using WordPress.com or WordPress.org.
At no point was I asked to start a new account with WordPress.com (I want a Premium).
Towards the end, it suggested that if I had a Premium account, I could do a Domain Mapping (once, for free), but given my level of confusion, I hesitate to do anything at this point.

What next? How do I sort this out?
