Transfer of Domain Name

  I am new at this. I paid to register our domain name through SiteGround. I want to transfer the domain name to WordPress, so I can begin the website development. However, I got the message that I have to wait 60 days. Why is this and can I transfer the domain name earlier?

  Hello @helpinghandme53,

  Yes it is true that you need to wait for 60 days to transfer the domain registration for newly registered domain, however you can do domain mapping and host it here with WordPress.com.

  Thanks for the answer but the question remains is to why as I have to explain the reason to the people I am working with.

  Although this support document https://en.support.wordpress.com/move-domain/transfer-domain-registration/ refers to moving away from WordPress.com it does say:

  It is not possible to transfer a domain for 60 days following the registration date or for the 60 day period following a previous transfer. This 60 day lock is required by the Internet Corporation for Assigned Names and Numbers (ICANN) and cannot be waived.
