transfer of domain registration

  At the moment I have a website and domain registered with netregistry but wish to transfer over to word press.

  When I purchased the WordPress.com Bundle for my website, part of it is the offer a domain but I cant seem to register that one- I assumee this is because it is still registered with netregistry so my question is though is if I cancel that subscription (and the registration) – can I then transfer it over to domain that is offered by word press?
  And how would I do this? I assume the easiest approach is to wait for the previous website registration to be cancelled and then simply put it through the system at word press?

  Currently we don’t take incoming domain transfers. Therefore it’s only possible to map an existing domain to your WordPress.com blog.

  You can go to Store > Domains on your blog’s dashboard and follow the steps there.

  Please take a look at the following guide before going through the process.

  Another alternative would be to wait for the previous domain registration to expire. Though after the expiration it can take some time before the domain is available for registry again. And, there’s a risk that someone else would register your domain first.
