Hi there,
Just to be clear, do you want to use the domain you bought from Bluehost, with your WordPress.com site at http://winephocus.wordpress.com/?
If that’s what you want to do, you can either transfer or just connect. It’s entirely up to what you prefer: if you prefer to have your domain and your site at the same provider, transfer; if you prefer to have the site with us, but keep the domain registered at Bluehost, use Domain Connection instead.
Keep in mind that regardless of which option you choose, you’ll need to upgrade your WordPress.com site to one of our paid plans. Also note that if you bought your domain less than 60 days ago, you won’t be able to transfer it yet. In that case, connecting it is your only option until it becomes eligible for transfer on Bluehost’s end.

If, on the other hand, you’re trying to set up a WordPress site on a hosting plan you bought from Bluehost, then you don’t need to do anything at all on our end. WordPress.com is a hosting provider, like Bluehost, and we’re not the same thing as the open source WordPres software you’ll be using if you host directly with Bluehost.
In that case, please contact Bluehost support directly for help installing WordPress on your hosting account with them, and connecting your domain to that site.
Let me know if you have any more questions about this.

What is the advantage of waiting 60 days to transfer my domain to WordPress vs having Bluehost install WordPress on my hosting account with them? I want to have both domain and site with the same provider.
Also since I just bought the domain thru Bluehost, if I transfer it to WordPress and have a paid plan there do I still have to pay Bluehost in the future? And thanks for your email really helpful but as you can see raised more questions!
Regards

I think there’s some confusion here. There are three different “WordPress” at play here:
1. The free, open-source WordPress software which can power your website.
2. WordPress.org which is the open-source project that works on the WordPress software and where you can get the software for free to use on your own hosting provider.
3. WordPress.com which is a managed hosting provider of the WordPress software and with whom you’re contacting now.The 60-day transfer lock is implemented by most domain registrars and has no bearing on where you host your site.
Regarding if you host with us versus Bluehost, WordPress.com takes care of a lot of the site maintenance, security, and backups for you, whereas you would need to take care of those things yourself on another hosting provider. You can read more here about the differences between hosting with us versus another host (a.k.a. “.org” ):

Also since I just bought the domain thru Bluehost, if I transfer it to WordPress and have a paid plan there do I still have to pay Bluehost in the future?
If you transfer the domain here to WordPress.com and host your site with us, you would not need to pay Bluehost in the future.
I hope that helps!

Thank you for your reply
I am confused and not sure which way to go so:
I want to have a blog that I discuss and talk about wine. Just for fun, not for profit. This is what I have to date –
1) Somewhere on WordPress is winephocus.wordpress.com
2) on 6/13 I bought a plan and created a domain on Bluehost – domain is winephocus.comI would like to have everything on WordPress. And I need help in developing the blog as I had problems setting it up when I did and didn’t know where or how to go to get help.
So please, which WordPress should I get (I did read about the different versions but that didn’t answer my question) that will allow me with the minimum of technical expertise to create and publish my blog?
And can I use the Bluehost created domain?
Thanks -
Hi there,
1) Somewhere on WordPress is winephocus.wordpress.com
Correct, this is the site that is under your @clkthree account here on WordPress.com.
2) on 6/13 I bought a plan and created a domain on Bluehost – domain is winephocus.com
I don’t see a site on that URL for now, but I think it will help to point out that we are not directly connected to Bluehost (we’re both independent providers of WordPress sites) so we’re not able to help with that site directly. Should you decide to continue with your site on Bluehost, you would likely contact them for support. I know they offer “hosting support” but I am not sure they offer “WordPress site support” since it is just one of many platforms they allow you to install under your account.
So please, which WordPress should I get (I did read about the different versions but that didn’t answer my question) that will allow me with the minimum of technical expertise to create and publish my blog?
I would say that you will find it easier to do that here. Unlike with other hosts, which use the more advanced (and completely DIY) version of the WordPress platform, we are a little different in that we’re a managed provider of WordPress sites. We handle software updates, security scanning, account login protection, and other things that you would normally need to handle for your self. In addition we provide in-house support for your WordPress questions since this is the only platform we build sites on.
If you are just getting started, you may want to consider our free blogging webinar, which is a great way to get your feet under you quickly: https://wordpress.com/webinars/quick-start-blogging/
Additionally we have a self-guided course you can take (also free) which helps with other important skills like how to find your inspiration, set up an editorial calendar, and build traffic to your blog: https://wpcourses.com/course/intro-to-blogging/
And of course we’re happy to answer any questions you have here… Feel free to ask as many as you like, you can’t possibly ask too many. :)
And can I use the Bluehost created domain?
Our free sites must use the included “wordpress.com” domain we assign, but if you upgrade to any of the plans you see here, they will allow you to connect your Bluehost domain, so that your site has a custom address without “wordpress.com” in the URL.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
