Transfer or connect our domain name

I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there!
On WordPress.com, you can register a domain with any of the extensions listed in this article:
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/domain-pricing-and-available-tlds/
Note that the following domain extensions (.com, .org, etc.) cannot be transferred to WordPress.com at this time:
- .ca
- .fr
- .uk (including .co.uk)
- .jp
If you have already purchased a domain that you would like to transfer to WordPress.com, this article can help you transfer a domain you already own over to WordPress.com:
https://wordpress.com/support/incoming-domain-transfer/
If you have already purchased a custom domain elsewhere and want to keep your custom URL after you transfer it to WordPress.com, you would need to upgrade from a free WordPress.com plan to WordPress Starter or a WordPress Pro plan instead.
This article will show you how to connect your domain to a WordPress.com website if you prefer to keep your domain registered with your current provider (note that this will also require a WordPress.com paid plan):
https://wordpress.com/support/domains/connect-existing-domain/
Hope this helps!

Hi there,
Whether you transfer your domains or simple connect them is entirely up to you. Personally I find it easier to have my domain and my site at the same provider, as it means I only have to pay one company for my site instead of two, and I can manage everything in the same place.
But there are also many people who prefer to keep the two separate, and there’s no problem with that :)
Let me know if you have any other questions about this.
Just a note that I edited your reply, as it was breaking the formatting of the thread:
If you want to include a bulleted list in a reply using

, remember that those must always be wrapped in

tags. i.e.ulindicates the start and end of a list, whileliindicates individual items in that list. If you leave out theultags, the browser treats everything appearing on the page after your list items as part of the list. Also make sure you understand someone’s question before you answer: you gave very detailed information about domain transfers, but that’s not what the OP asked. They asked if they should transfer or connect, i.e. which option is better :)
