  Mapping keeps the payments for the domain where it currently is. Transferring means you manage your site and domain both via the same company. You need to have owned a domain for 60 days to transfer it here (or anywhere else) though and there are a few domains that cannot be transferred here at all. In that case mapping would be the answer.
