    Is it better to transfer or map a domain?

    Hi there,

    I think this depends on your situation, as either method will allow you to have a custom URL for your WordPress.com site

    Mapping: Means the domain stays where it is now (your current registrar) and is only connected to us via settings. This means you continue to pay renewal charges for your domain with the company you have it through now

    Transfer: You move your domain registration to us, and mange all renewal payments here with us as well. You no longer need to remember to renew with your original registrar.

    The primary advantage of transferring your domain to us is that it brings all your “website fees” under one roof, so you do not need to remember to renew with two different companies.

    Also worth noting that if you upgrade to one of our plans, and decide to transfer your domain to us, that transfer is free, and also adds a free renewal for one more year, so you would not need to pay for the domain renewal until “next year” which can help save a few costs.
