Transfer or map my domain

  I’m in the process of setting up an online store. I already own the domain name. My question is when going through word press would it be better to transfer the domain name or to just map it. I’m new to all of this so hoping for whatever will make things smoother for me as a beginner. Thanks!

  Hi givashits,

  Domain mapping will create a connection between the domain and WordPress.com but the domain itself will still need to be renewed through your current provider each year:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/

  Transferring the domain to WordPress.com means it will be registered and renewed through us each year. This option would be better if you want to manage the site and domain through one account:

  https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
