Transfer problem from Blogger

  I have a pretty large file, a 7 year old blogger file with a lot of images. The file is 33.1 Mb. I get an error message ‘we had trouble reading the import file’. It is an .xml and I have tried another time with the same results.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  Hi there,

  We have a file size limit of 15MB on import files, but if the file is 7 years old it’s also possible its internal structure is no longer compatible with the importer here.

  Looking at our logs it also looks like you’re trying to import a Blogger template file. While it is a .xml, template files cannot be imported on WordPress.com. Only Blogger’s content backup option can be imported here.

  You need the file generated by the Backup option, not the one from the Theme option, which is what you currently appear to have.

  Thanks for the explanation. Last night I imported another of my blogger blogs to WordPress. It is is 4 years old, no images and 4.3Mb of content. It imported without any issues and it was exported to a .xml file the exact same way as I did the other.

  There is only one place in ‘settings’ I can generate the file and only one button to choose, labeled ‘Back up Content’.

  I’ll take a look at the google link you provided. Thanks again for the explanation.
