Transfer site from Altervista

    I have a personal website that I built with altervista.org using the wordpress platform. It’s a free site but I’m thinking of buying a subscription with wordpress.com and using a new domain name. However I’m not sure how I would go about transferring the site to wordpress.com. Also would I lose the site on altervista as well??

    Thank you. I’m a bit of an amateur to this! If for some reason I was unable to transfer my site would I be able to cancel my new subscription?

    I’ve checked and confirmed that Altervista uses WordPress as well, so I don’t expect you to have any issues with exporting from there and importing here, since you are moving from WordPress to WordPress. It’s worth noting however that the export file you create at Altervista will not contain the theme design itself, but it includes all your pages, blog posts, comments, and uploaded media.

    So you will have all your contents here, but may need to pick from our available themes to find a new look for your site (or one that is similar to what you have already) and you can see those here: https://wordpress.com/themes/

    I’ll also add that the import/export will work even if you have a free site without an upgrade however, so you can get started now if you wish, and purchase your upgrade after you confirm the transfer was successful. If you opt to upgrade first, you can take advantage of our 14 day refund policy (details here) so if you have any issues that can’t be resolved in that time you would be fine to cancel for a refund.
