Transfer stats
-
Hi,
I had a WP install at http://mediumutm.ca that used WordPress.com stats.
I have since moved that install to http://2012.mediumutm.ca. I now have a new install at the original URL, with all the posts from the old install imported. This install uses Jetpack’s stats.
Is it possible to transfer the stats history from the old install to the new one?
Thanks!

It is possible to transfer stats from WordPress.com to a self hosted site. But this needs staff’s help.
I tagged this post for staff’s attention. Some friendly staff member will get in touch to transfer your stats.

I have transferred your stats as requested.

Thanks! I see that 2012.mediumutm.ca reflects views to mediumutm.ca since then.
But I was actually wondering if the new install, mediumutm.ca, could show all the 3 years of history associated with the old install, 2012.mediumutm.ca. All the URLs and posts are the same.

Hm, I’m a bit confused. In your first request here, you said:
I had a WP install at http://mediumutm.ca that used WordPress.com stats.
I have since moved that install to http://2012.mediumutm.ca.Did you mean the reverse of that? That you have since moved from 2012.mediumutm.ca to mediumutm.ca?

Kind of… I’ll try to be clearer, sorry:
1. There used to be one install, which we’ll call Michael, and it was located at mediumutm.ca.
2. I decided to remake this site from scratch, losing the theme, plugins, iffy database junk, etc. So I built an entirely new install, which we’ll call Luke. But I wanted to preserve its posts, so I imported them all to Luke.
Hence, in terms of posts, there are now two copies of the same site. (Michael will never be updated again and is set to discourage crawlers.)
3. I moved Michael to 2012.mediumutm.ca to sit there as an archive, and moved Luke to mediumutm.ca to be the real site.
So now an install exists at mediumutm.ca, having Michael’s posts but not having Michael’s stats.
The short version is that I’m hoping the stats associated with 2012.mediumutm.ca can be moved to mediumutm.ca. :)

Quick question. Can you undo the original mistaken transfer? I.e. the 2012.mediumutm.ca no longer needs to track stats.
Thanks!

So let’s say now that I want to change my domain name from mediumutm.ca to themedium.ca (the former will remain as a mirror of the latter, though). The installs won’t change this time, just their site address. Will the stats still be okay?
Thanks!

Yes, they should be, but if there is ever a problem, we can always transfer them again. :)

Hi, um… I disabled Jetpack while doing some performance tests and when I reactivated it, it wanted to reconnect to wordpress.com and reset my stats! Ay ay ay… Can I recover them (e.g. from 2012.themedium.ca)?

I have transferred your stats again. :)
