Transfer to a self hosted site
-
I need to transfer my start and followers to my new site, but I also have some questions.
1.How do I get the old one to redirect to the new one? Can I have it re-directed per post and page or will it just redirect to the home page?
2. Can I transfers all the pins and likes?
3.I installed the Jetpack and it’s linked to my used ID is that correct?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy,
- For a redirect from your WordPress.com to your new WordPress.org-powered site, you would need our Site Redirect upgrade. Often one year is enough. With the upgrade, it will direct anything at your WordPress.com address to the matching URL on your new site. For example, http://example.wordpress.com/2013/09/17/example-post/ will redirect to http://example.com/2013/09/17/example-post/ . If you’ve chosen a different permalink structure on your new site, it wouldn’t be the ideal redirect.
- Likes are not transferred. Pins (to Pinterest, right?) would still exist on Pinterest, but still point to the wordpress.com address.
- That’s correct.
If all that sounds good, can you confirm that you’d like the followers and stats, if possible, from http://creativedominican.wordpress.com to migrate to http://www.creativedominican.com ?
Thanks!

Thanks so much for the quick response. Yes, please I would like the stats and followers transferred from http://creativedominican.wordpress.com to http://www.creativedominican.com. I’m assuming this will be for the email as well as the wordpress followers?
I will upgrade for the 1 year redirect, thanks for that information. Will I be able to do the redirect the links myself once I upgrade?
Thanks,

Hi Rebeca,
I’ve transferred your followers over for you. I did merge your stats, though since the post_ids don’t align, the stats may look a bit off (notice the #1080 (loading title) entry). I can undo the merge if that is an issue longterm. As folks stop looking at your old site, it’ll become less of an issue.
Yes, both e-mail and WP.com followers are transferred.
I notice the permalinks are set to just the post-title on your new site, so for the redirect, you’ll need to account for the difference somehow on your new site–either a fancy 404 page that says things are moved with a search box or adding redirects internally on your site (“.htaccess redirects” or using the plugin Redirection) to redirect folks visiting /2013/09/17/example-post to /example-post.
The other option is to change your permalinks on the new site to the year/month/day/title format.
Cheers!

hmmm not sure why they would be different. I exported the files and then did the import. I will look them over and them all then to match the old one. I will change them all to match the old one then and that would fix it right? Or will you need to transfer it again?

sorry one more thing. When I click to see followers it’s shows zero? does it take a few days to show up? thanks.

Ok I changed the permalinks to include year/month/date before post name. I’m guessing this fixes the issue you mentioned?
I do see the list of followers now. I’m guessing once I make a new post they will show in the box under the stats. I will do the redirect tomorrow. Thanks again.

I just checked and I see your followers. The count may need to refresh, which it will always do when someone subscribes or unsubscribes.
If you visit the Jetpack->Site Stats link on your new site’s Dashboard, follower counts should appear in the bottom-left. They’ll look a little different than the did on .com and will not include your Twitter/Facebook followers if you had Publicize enabled.
The post_id issue is a bit deeper… the ID number in the database for the post. It could be a variety of reasons to account for the different. It’s generally not an issue moving forward, though some older posts may look odd in the stats. In either event, all stats are being counted.
For the permalinks, that should resolve it so the site redirect works as expected once you add that upgrade.
Please let me know if you need anything!
