Transfer to WP.org – redirect for subdomains
-
I don’t know too much about how things are set up. But, because of the way my site is currently hosted, I use WP.com on a subdomain. This and some other things are making me interested in setting up a wordpress.org hosted solution elsewhere.
I’d like to transfer to a hosted WP.org installation (probably on Dreamhost).
I’m wondering how to get subdomain.mydomain.com/2013/05/08/name-of-post (as it is currently set up on my wordpress.com site) to always point to http://www.mydomain.com/2013/05/08/name-of-post once I’ve got that going on my WP.org setup. Any insight?

I think a site redirect upgrade will work – but I have flagged this for the staff to help in case a sub-domain mapping has some sort of quirk –
but since you would be on your own host you also should be able to do the site redirect on your new host – but I have never set one of those up so you would need to get help elsewhere – I am sure that the folks at WordPress.ORG can help you – http://wordpress.org/

Actually, once you direct your name servers elsewhere, like to another hosting provider, all of the DNS controls are handled by the new destination, so you’ll need to setup (and redirect) your subdomains over there.
