transfer website

Hi, I currently have a wix website. Wix is down and I’ve had multiple problems over with them. Can I transfer the website to WordPress intact so that I don’t have to redesign the entire site?
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

We do have a way to import from Wix, but it does require your site to be online and accessible for the importer to work: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/
You may need to set up some things like your theme, etc. as that may not transfer over. If you can give us your current site URL, we’ll be better able to advise!

Great, thanks for clarifying. You can import into a new site by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/import/import-from-wix/#import-to-a-new-site
IN the first few steps of that process we will ask you what the address (URL) you want for the site. For now skip entering “diannemiley.com” and just choose the free “WordPress.com” provided instead. This will allow you to import a copy of all content to your WordPress.com site, but your wix site at diannemiley.com will stay online and be unaffected.
That way you can take some time to get set up here on WordPress.com in private, and then as a last step you can move your domain, which will seamlessly replace the Wix site with the one you have set up in WordPress.com

I took the plunge to transfer my wix site to WordPress. YIKES. Most of my pages did not transfer. None of my photos or homepage text transferred.I specifically asked whether my site would transfer without having to redesign the whole site. I was told yes.
News flash – it did not.

The content (text and images) should transfer without a problem. The design is not a direct transfer, though. Sometimes it will work well and other times not so much. We had mentioned your theme might not transfer, and you might want to take some time to set it up here.
That said, honestly I think what you have looks pretty nice. You could use Customize to get it more like the original colors and what not, but it’s up to you.
I’d recommend reaching out to support directly (which does come with your plan) and they can work with you on what you want to do (whether to finish customizing or get a refund): https://wordpress.com/help/contact

Oh: also, regarding pictures on the front page, if you’ll add Featured Images to your latest few posts, they’ll appear properly.
