Transfer wordpress.com domain to wordpress.org
-
Hello,
I’ve recently realized that I need a wordpress.org self-hosted site instead of a wordpress.com premium plan.
I need to know how I can transfer the domain name I’ve purchased from wordpress.com. I purchased it before I signed up for the premium plan, so it is not wrapped in the premium bundle – I paid for (renewed) it separately (before I realized it came with the premium plan).
I haven’t created my WordPress.org account yet, nor have I purchased hosting, which I plan to get through Bluehost. I hope to follow the instructions I have found so that I can transfer my worpress.com site to wordpress.org.
I may also have to start over and build the site from scratch, because I am running into so many frustrating challenges trying to design and edit the existing site, which I’ve switched to “coming soon” instead of being live.
First, when I recently changed my theme, I believe I selected the wrong option and my homepage content did not carry over to the new theme’s homepage. Also, I seem to keep choosing themes that I cannot customized exactly to my liking (column widths not wide enough, etc.
Also, it seems like whenever I look up instructions on how to change the appearance of the theme, my theme doesn’t seem to have the setting available in the instructions.
Also, it seems like whenever I look up how to add custom CSS to a page or theme, the person who provides the answer never mentions WHERE to paste the code, and then either nothing is changed or it messes everything up.
Also, the homepage settings ask which page to set your homepage to, and I don’t want to set it to anything except the page that is already there, which looks exactly like the design of the theme, so I have [-Select] selected as that is the only way to keep the homepage looking exactly like what the theme demo looks like.
I know there are a lot of question in this one post, so thank you for reading.
At this point I dread logging into the backstage of my blog every day because I can’t seem to figure out how to get it right and there are so many instructions online, I’m dealing with tech overwhelm.I’m hoping that once I transfer my site to self-hosted, I will be able to better customize themes, etc. with plugins, etc. (?)
Thanks in advance for your help.

Additionally, let me point you to a couple of things that may help…
I need to know how I can transfer the domain name I’ve purchased from wordpress.com.
Here is a support document that will explain how to do that.

I’m hoping that once I transfer my site to self-hosted, I will be able to better customize themes, etc. with plugins, etc.
One area that might be causing confusion is that the WordPress.com plan that you have purchased (Premium) does not allow for the uploading of themes or plugins. In order to do that, you would need to be on the WordPress.com Business plan:
