transfer wordpress host to a self hosting problem

  • Unknown's avatar

My blog and domain: retireforthefunofit.com are with WordPress.com. While keeping my purchased WordPress domain and moving to a different host (GoDaddy) so it is self-hosted, my blog is still down. I was informed by GoDaddy support that the DNS change is correct, but I should work with WordPress on changing the IP address to GoDaddy.
Is this necessary? Don’t I have only one IP address for everything on my computer? Thanks in advance for any advise on this hosting transfer issue.

The domain still points to your WordPress.com blog.

To point the domain you registered at WordPress.com to another server (hosting service), please follow the instructions here:
    http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/change-name-servers/#changing-domain-name-servers

Note you will need to obtain the name server values from your current host. You should be able to find them on their support documentation, or contact them and ask for the information. (Name servers may be referred as “nameservers” or “NS records” instead.)

Hope this helps – let us know if you have any more questions!

I had followed the above instructions before I submitted this topic question, but it didn’t work. I had to manually change the IP address. Then I had to click on “I have a hosting account with these domains” and refresh. Then my blog was up and completed. Why weren’t the instructions regarding my final step of clicking on “I have a hosting account with these domains” listed in the instructions? Or was this an unusual step for me to have to do on my own?
I’d suggest updating this final information in your instructions.

There’s no need to change any IP address record. You will need to obtain the name server records from your current host (GoDaddy) and set these to your domain.

If you want you can also send the name server records to me and I’ll set it for you.

    Thank you.

This thread is public. Please send me a private note and we can look at my name server records together.

I was able to make the blog live by clicking on the second line regarding “I have a hosting account with these domains.”

NOW MY PROBLEM WITH THE BLOG IS:
My WP followers can click on the box “like” but from my admin side, it shows it is “loading” and not available to me. Also in the upper right hand corner (next to my name and picture) header, there is a “star” that will show me recent activities and that is also “loading” and not functional.

Can you please help me with this problem. Thanks so much.

Can you please respond today? I had followed all the steps that you showed on Tuesday and my blog went down for 24 hours. The only way to get it back was to revert back to the original wordpress name server.
Why is it so difficult to direct the nameservers to hosting with GoDaddy?

You said: “If you want you can also send the name server records to me and I’ll set it for you.” How can I do this privately????

  • Unknown's avatar

Why can’t you respond timely? It’s been over 8 hours.

It seems the name server records are changed correctly but you haven’t launched your site yet. I see a message that says ‘If you’re the site owner, log in to launch this site.’

Could you please give that a try.

Everything is “launched” correctly. But My Blog is still not on-line. Please check on WordPress functions to see what’s holding up the process. Thanks

I took a look and everything is working properly.

Please let us know if you need any further assistance!

Hi, I have cancelled my self-hosting process with GoDaddy.
Could you please help with some questions for migrating to self-hosting with Blue Host.
1). there should be a tab for “permalink” so I can transfer the permalink to each post.
2). I paid for a domain name with WordPress. Can you help me get my original blog on http://retireforthefunofit.com. Right now that url is attached to the GoDaddy hosted blog and I want my old blog there,
    Thanks so much.

There’s no need to change permalinks if you’re planning to use the same domain on a different host. This guide will step you through the process of moving your blog to a WordPress.org instance: http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#moving-to-wordpress-org

It seems the domain is pointed to your WordPress.com blog already. If you don’t see the change yet, please try clearing out your browser cache.

My wordpress blog is merging with the self-hosted blog. The merged blog only shows the visitor and view stats for the past few days. What steps need be taken to retrieve my old (prior to self-host) visitor & view stats?

  • Unknown's avatar

According to forum posts from others, YOU need to transfer all my follower, visitor, view stats. I can’t do this myself. Please make this stat update to my self-hosted blog as soon as possilble.

  • Unknown's avatar

All WordPress.com and E-mail followers have been moved as requested. Stats are tracked per domain and are not transferable.

I don’t understand! I purchased my WORDPRESS domain 2 months ago for$18.00! WordPress is the ONLY domain that I have.

Please explain why you can’t transfer my WordPress follower stats prior to my self-hosting with Blue Host.

  • Unknown's avatar

The domain you used on WordPress.com covered your actual blog address (ending on .wordpress.com). That’s why it’s currently not possible to move stats. Our data team is working on a tool to move stats, but it hasn’t been released yet. I can contact you once it’s available, although there is no estimated time for it.

    Sorry for the inconvenience.

I have manually merged the statistics for your old WordPress.com site in to your new WordPress.org site. You can view these statistics here:

    https://wordpress.com/#!/my-stats/?blog=53887915&unit=1

Keep in mind that you will need to log in in order to view them.

    Have a good weekend!
