Transfer wordpress.org to wordpress.com

Hi! I have a domain at names.co.uk and I used it with a self hosted site on wordpress.org, but I want it now to point to wordpress.com. I have used it with wordpress.com in the past and it worked, but now when I try to make it point back to my wordpress.com, it doesn’t work anymore. I did everything I could and if I try to access my site now it says: ‘You can’t get there from here (site_id mismatch error). This happens when an external blog (a self-hosted blog using the Stats plugin) is pointed to WordPress.com by DNS. If you are trying to migrate away from WordPress.com, please update your DNS to point the domain to your own server. Otherwise please contact WordPress.com support and explain what you were trying to do, what steps you took, what you expected to happen, and what actually happened. It’s probably Andy’s fault.’ What should I do next? Thank you!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

In order to map your domain to the site hosted on WordPress.com, you need an upgraded plan. Each paid plans come with a free credit that allows you to register a domain or transfer/map your domain. Domain mapping no longer available for purchase as a standalone upgrade.

  • Hi there,

To use an already registered domain with your WordPress.com site, you have two options:

    1. Map the domain. With this option, you keep the domain with your current registrar and you point it to your WordPress.com site.

    2. Transfer the domain to WordPress.com:

Please note, that both options require an upgraded WordPress.com plan.

Also, let us know your domain name will help us identify what’s causing the error you’re getting.
