Transfer WordPress purchased Domain Name to Hosting Service

  My site is down = I originally purchased the domain name through WordPress.com thinking I would use the free blog service then decided to go with the self-hosting service and purchased a plan with Hostgator and designed the site myself. The domain name had already been purchased for 1 year through WordPress.com (which apparently is pretty uncommon to do) so I just had that domain name pointed to the hostgator account for the past year. Now when my domain name expired, the site went down. I need help now with the domain name and transferring the domain to our Hostgator site. I want to be able to manage the domain name and hosting account all on one panel.
