Transfer wordpress.com purchased domain to squarespace

  Hi

  I am helping a friend move her domain from wordpress.com (she has not made a site yet but purcahsed domain through wordpress.com) to squarespace.

  When logging into squarespace to set up domains it says that the domain i enter is not elligible for transfer. I can’t see why not as it follows the other squarespace rules as far as I can see.

  Is this a wordpress.com issue?

  I suspect you will ultimately find that is a SquareSpace policy. It has been quite a while since I bumped into that while investigating the possibility of doing what you are wanting to do, but read the fine details there and things will likely become clear.

  Thanks- I am trying to check with them now. Also wondering if it is because I am an administrator but not site owner- I don’t think I can see all the options in wordpress.com log in for the friend. Will get her to go in to take a look too.

  Yes, I learned about that yesterday. Only the owner has access to the actual WordPress Dashboard where everything behind-the-curtain appears.

  I am in the dashboard- but because I have a wordpress account it just keeps taking me back to my account but i no longer have a paid account or site with wordpress myself.

  I want to know how to email wordpress.com support directly or do live chat but because it appears I don7t have paid account (even though she does) I can’t….

  It seems the whois policy could be the problem. But I can not access it.

  Try this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/
  However, I would guess you will not get far there since you are not the domain owner.

  Hi there,

  When did she purchase the domain? All new domains are locked for a period of 60 days after purchase, and cannot be transferred during that time. This is a fraud-prevention measure by the organisation that regulates all domain names on the web, ICANN, and there’s no way around it. Your friend will only be able to transfer the domain once they’ve owned it for at least 60 days.

  Also note that only the username who registered a domain can transfer it, so even if you’re an admin on the site the transfer option won’t be available to you.

  For any more help with this I’ll need to know the exact domain name, and I’ll need your friend to post here herself as I cannot make changes to a domain unless the owner requests it.
