"Transfer your blog" from wordpress.com to wordpress.org–help!

  • Unknown's avatar

I am trying to switch my worpdress.com site to a self hosted blog(using wordpress.org) and am at the point of actually “transferring” the blog. I used this link as a help guide:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/

The problem is with the “Transfer my blog” down at the bottom of that help guide. I went to my old wordpress.com login/dashboard, went to my blogs, clicked on transfer blog, but when I type in my email address that my new wordpress.org site is registered to, it tells me it can’t “transfer the blog to that username”. Any help or advice?! Thank you!!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can export your content from a WordPress.com blog to a self-hosted site running WordPress via WordPress.org. Your account itself does not “transfer”. You will need to keep your WordPress.com account for, among other things, connecting to Akismet (for comment spam) and Jetpack (to transfer followers and to use all of the Jetpack features).

Your self-hosted account and login information is entirely separate from your WordPress.com account info, however.

Hi! I also purchased the domain at wordpress.com but I think wordpress.org could help me customize my blog better like plugins and all… can I transfer to .org? will it affect my purchased web URL and the customization I already made? thanks
