Transfer your domain away from your current registrar.

I have a domain name with GoDaddy until 2/9/2023. If I transfer my domain away from my current registrar will I lose the renewal year of 2023 and owe/pay WordPress in a year?
Or do I keep the same renewal and pay WordPress upon expiration?

Hello there,
As part of the transfer process, your domain will be renewed for an additional year. If you just renewed the domain with your current provider, you will not lose that renewal. If your domain has already been renewed to the maximum possible term (ten years for most TLDs, though shorter for some country-code TLDs), it won’t be possible to transfer until the domain becomes eligible for renewal again.
According to this, you shouldn’t lose your renewal. I will tag this so a staff member sees it and confirms.
You can find out more about transferring a domain you already own to WordPress.com by reading this guide:
https://wordpress.com/support/move-domain/incoming-domain-transfer/And since your domain is registered at GoDaddy you learn how to do it here:

@unnestingmom – what @luanluta996 shared is correct. When you transfer your domain to us, it will renew for an additional year which would make your next renewal date 2/9/2024.
I hope that clarifies things! Let us know if you have any questions or need help with anything else.
