Transfer your multiple year domain away from your current registrar
-
I have a domain through Google Domains that is registered for four years. If I transfer the domain to WordPress, will the registration of the domain be for four years as well, i.e., will the additional years carryover automatically? Or do I need to map the domain instead?

Hi there, if you already have a domain registered elsewhere, you can use the domain credit included in every WordPressdotcom plan to map your domain to a WordPressdotcom website for as long as you maintain your plan.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/I’m not certain what would be the benefit of transferring a domain that already has a multiyear registration with someone else, so I’ve gone ahead and tagged this thread for Staff attention and input. Thanks for your patience while they get back to you.

Hi there,
If you transfer your domain on WordPresss.com, your additional years will carry on provided that your current registrar (Google) has already processed those additional years at the registry.
You can verify that by looking at the WHOIS record (https://whois.icann.org) for your domain. Just check the expiration date.
If you let me know your domain name I can check that for you.

Thanks lizkarkoski! I am sure that other users have multiple-year domain registrations as well, so it’s useful information to have.
