Transfering a website from an existing domain

Hello, I hope someone can help. I am working to get my job’s website transferred from our current html to WordPress. We currently own our domain and I was wondering at what point I should enter that information in WordPress. When I signed up it asked me for it right away but I am concerned that it might interfere with the current not planning to shut down the html site currently using our domain until I have the WordPress one ready. I am also a newbie to WordPress so I am assuming it will take me a number of days between starting and having something I am comfortable putting up to replace the html one.

    Hi @veronicacnieves,

You can continue building your site on WordPress.com and still keep your current HTML site live.

As and when you feel that your site on WordPress.com is ready, you can point your domain to your WordPress site.

    Hope this help.

    Best :)

  • @veronicacnieves,
just to clarify what Sunil wrote, when you start creating your WordPress.com site, you can choose a free subdomain (like one ending with .wordpress.com or .home.blog) and only trasnfer or map your custom domain when you’re ready to switch to the new site.

Let me know if you have any more questions regarding that.
