transfering an existing domain name to wordpress.com
-
Hi, I am a complete novice to this whole thing. I just bought a domain name. Now I want wordpress to host it, but there is all this jargon regarding mapping and changing name servers etc… What do I do. I really don’t want to have wordpress at the end of my .com
I haven’t any content under my domain name.any advice could help.

I too am a novice and interested in this. I understand what I read in the help section about domain mapping, but I’m confused about how it works. Is it exactly the same as the blog I have at wordpress.com in terms of service and still hosted by wordpress.com on their servers with the only difference being the use of myname.com rather than myname.wordpress.com, or does my blog reside elsewhere and wordpress just knows where to look for it with the mapping?? Because I’m just learning I’m not sure if I’ve used the correct terminology so my question can be understood, but I hope so, because I don’t know where else to ask and the answer will help me decide what route I should take with this.

If you have an existing domain you want to map to your WordPress.com blog, you need to update the domain’s name servers on the domain registrar’s admin panel.
After that, you can go to Upgrades > Domains on your dashboard to add a domain mapping upgrades. If you need any help in each step, feel free to contact support.
