Transfering blog from .com to .org
-
Happiness Engineers I really need your help.
I have been trying to transfer my blog from a recently purchased upgrade (premium) and was hoping to transfer it over to wordpress.org as I have a custom theme that I have bought that I’d like to install and use.
I thought I was doing okay, I got myself signed up for with Bluehost and I have exported my old blog’s content and imported the WordPress plugin. However I am not sure if I have done something wrong or not or maybe have left out a step?
But from what I can tell, these steps haven’t worked and I’m not on wordpress.org and I can not install the theme that I have bought. It seems as if I am still under wordpress.com.
If someone could please help me out with this, I’d be greatly appreciative.
Thank you.

Have you followed through those steps?

Hey thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.
I think I found my road block. I followed through these steps and got to the ‘Move Domain’ and it’s here that I found that I don’t have permalinks?
So now I’m a little stumped as to why I can not see that.
-
So I was able to go one step further and change my DNS to point to my host server. But still no permalink setting.
-
Go to your self-hosted WordPress Dashboard>Settings>Permalinks and select the Day and name option.
-
That’s the part I’m having trouble with.
I don’t seem to have access to my self-hosted WordPress dashboard. So I am unable to edit my permalink. -
To access your self-hosted WordPress Dashboard visit your site and add /wp-admin/ at the end of the address. (www.example.com/wp-admin/)
If you don’t know your login information (username & password) contact your hosting provider for the recovery procedure.

Hi @theartofsarah,
As @fstat mentioned, your self-hosted login should live at theartofsarah.com/wp-admin. I’m currently presented with a login option when I load that page. Can you try to load this page again?
It looks like there is a placeholder on your site currently indicating that the WordPress installation was successful. Perhaps this just took some time to setup.

Everything looks like it is running smoothly, besides transferring everything over from my wordpress.com blog to this wordpress.org one. I don’t think I’ve been able to migrate everything over correctly.
Am I missing a step? Following these steps… https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/7/

I can move both your stats and subscribers for you! Just to confirm one last time before doing so, we’re moving everything from theartofsarah.wordpress.com to http://www.theartofsarah.com. Correct?

-
I have moved your followers and combined your stats.
Please let me know if there is anything else I can do for you.
-
Thank you Rootjosh. That’s very much appreciated. Is there a way that I can bring over comments and likes?… not that there is much there. (It’s a work in progress) I thought jetpack could do it but I can not seem to work it out.
Thanks.
-
I’m afraid that likes cannot be transferred.
However, your comments should have been imported when you exported from WordPress.com and imported into your WordPress.org self-hosted site.

Okay thanks for your help.
I have maybe one last question. How come I can’t see the followers who subscribed by email or from my WordPress.com site? It says 0. Just a little confused by that. I have my Twitter and tumble numbers there but not any others.
Thanks.

Hi there,
Since your followers are all linked to your self-hosted (WordPress.org) site you’ll need to be sure you’re looking at the stats for that site and not your old WordPress.com site. Here’s where you can find those stats (and your list of followers) while you’re logged in to WordPress.com:
