transfering domain

  Hello. I have registered, but until I have built my new site and tested it I don’t want to transfer current domain in fear of loosing current website visibility. Can I come back to transfer of domain after I have built my wordpress site?

  Hey there nickgerolemoupainter,

  If I understand it correctly, you have a WordPress.com site that doesn’t have a domain name attached and a current website at another host at <domainname>.

  If so, you should be able to work on your WordPress site using its temporary hostname… and once you’ve transferred all the content from the old site to the new (temp) site, you can start the process of using the domain name.

  Absolutely! As @gimlix2 mentioned, you can start by creating a free site (with an address containing “.wordpress.com”, choosing a theme and importing content.

  When you are ready, the existing domain can be mapped or transferred to WordPress.com. Even if you decide to purchase a paid plan before then to access upgraded features, the domain credit doesn’t have to be used straight away.

  Greetings

  1. I have a WordPress site that had an old domain attached.
  2. I recently purchased a new domain name through Godaddy.
  3. I transferred the new domain name to my old site, which already has content.
  4. Now I am unable to log in to my WordPress site.
  5. Do I use my old log-in information to access WordPress?

  – new site url
  – old site url

  Adding another domain to your account shouldn’t have locked you out of the account.

  My old domain information (username/password) was what I used to log-in to WordPress to access/edit my site.

  I bought a new URL through Godaddy and transferred it to my old site.

  The only thing that was changed was the domain name.

  Now, when I try to access my site through WordPress, the username or password is invalid.
