Transfering Domain

  I recently paid for a new domain through Hostgator (this is how my previous domain worked), and I want to use a free WordPress site. Should I transfer the domain or map it?

  And now, if you choose to bring your site to life on WordPress.com. Read on.

  In order for you to map or transfer your domain over to WordPress.com, you need an upgraded WordPress.com plan. Here are a couple of links to help you compare the available plans here:

  Choose a WordPress.com Plan

  Please note that you cannot map or transfer a domain over to WordPress.com with a free plan. However, you can start building your site on a free WordPress.com plan. Once you feel ready with the site; you can upgrade to a plan and then transfer or map your domain.
