Transfering domain regn from GoDaddy to WordPress

Can I transfer a domain name from GoDaddy to WordPress? I have the domain name “valleycafesci.org” registered with GoDaddy, about to expire this week, and am keen to transfer it to another registrar. Given that I’ve already set up this blog here, which can be expanded into a full website for the cafe, I hope it is possible to do this directly through WP. Is it?

We don’t accept incoming domain transfers, so you’ll need to keep your domain registered and current with a third–party domain registrar.

Given the above answer, do I need to cancel my domain through GoDaddy before transferring it to wordpress?

Don’t cancel anything – you can map your domain to a blog here – easy

If a domain name is canceled it can take 60 to 90 days to revert to the wild where it can be registered by someone else or registered by a squatter and the name held for hostage

Thank you. Ultimately, though, I want to cut ties with GoDaddy but keep the domain I already registered through them. Domain mapping doesn’t seem to fulfill that need, unless I am reading it wrong?

You can transfer the domain name registration to another registrar – just not to WordPress.COM – lots of domain registrars out there – Network Solutions and Name Cheap are two –
