Transfering to Self Hosting
-
Hi,
I am sorry if this is already resolved but I have spent hours looking for it and I am fairly frustrated at how hard it is to just transfer your site across or get the right information.
I have exported the XML file but it only seems to load over some of my images and not all. I can’t seem to find an answer as to how to then just export my images manually or attach them to the xml file. I find it frustrating that it has only grabbed some and not the rest.
Any constructive feedback is really appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

p.s. if there is a way to download a larger file type to use then that would be great also.

When you import the XML file there is a prompt asking if you want to include attachments. Say yes because the medial files, including images are attachments.

P.S. The guide is here https://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-to-a-self-hosted-wordpress-site/

Thanks for your reply
This is the message I get when I try that:
Internal Server Error
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the server administrator and inform them of the time the error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.
More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

If you chnage the permalink structure on the self hosted site and make it different than what you had here at wordpress.COM then this is the result.

Sorry but I do not provide wordpress.ORG support. I found this for you https://www.google.com/url?q=https://wordpress.org/support/topic/changing-permalink-structure-5&sa=U&ved=0ahUKEwj3kcaF-cXJAhVE7B4KHYGyAokQFggEMAA&client=internal-uds-cse&usg=AFQjCNGyJelbOajeHLVSXY0yZUlwe4qLtA
If you are not successful you will have to ask over here https://wordpress.org/support/ and if you don’t have a username account at WordPress.ORG account, then click http://wordpress.org/support/ and register one on the top right hand corner of the page that opens, https://wordpress.org/support/register.php so you can post to the support forums there.

Yes. You hire a recommended web host https://en.support.wordpress.com/?page_id=102745&page=2
Create an XML export file of your WordPress.COM blog content https://en.support.wordpress.com/export/ and then import the file into your new site. -
Thanks for your help, I am sorry if I sounded rude. I am just tired and frustrated. I have followed all the steps that I see over and over again and still it does not work and no one has an answer. For now I will leave this thread open in case I find a solution which I will post here .
If not then I will close it.Thanks for all your help and time again!

For anyone with the same issue:
https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/transfering-to-self-hosting?replies=15#post-2510458
There is a comment on there which says about converting the .xml file to a .gzip file (using something like 7zip for Microsoft users). This completely solved the issue of missing media during my transfer for me. There were only 2 things that did not drag across, of which I have only been able to find 1 (a page) which is small enough to manually recreate so not too worried about that.
Hope it helps.

Actually Internal Server Errors can be a bit complicated to troubleshoot. I would check with your host, then check with the WordPress.org forums for more details.
Also, zipping the XML won’t automatically include the images for you, but if the problem that caused the internal server error went away, the images would come through like they normally do.
Just as one more note, when transferring to self-hosting, particularly if you aren’t using a recommended host, you may need to run the importer a few times. Many hosts will time out on a longer process like that, but the importer is designed to pick up where it left off. So if at first you don’t succeed, give it a little time, then import again. Good luck!
