Transfering WordPress Site
-
Hi, I am looking to transfer my WordPress.com Site to my hosting company. So far I have setup WordPress on the new hosts and installed the theme. I have done the export xml file on the WordPress.com site and imported that on the new host. None of my site is displaying on the new hosts. They have told me in need the SQL database from WordPress, but how do I get this? Any help would be greatly appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

hrmm when you setup your WordPress website with your hosting company, a database should have already been generated. Importing your XML file should have imported all your posts and what-not into your new database.
I would recommend trying the export again, make sure you select “all content”.
Then try importing the XML file again. It’s possible the export/import didn’t go as planned.

I did this twice now. My new hosts just tell me that the SQL Database is needed. The support team tel me that database is empty. I can see various files relating to my site on the new hosts in the Public_htm folder. I just do not know what to do.

that’s odd…
I’ve done exactly what you’re doing, and I used the same steps you’re using and it worked fine.
can you open the xml file in a text editor? Does there appear to be content in it?

Yes, I can see lots of data. In fact when I view the files actually on my new hosts webspace, I can see my pictures and posts on there. Just when I actually visit the site in a browser, i see just the default WordPress page with none of my content.
Does this SQL database they are asking for actually exist>

This sounds like a question for the WordPress.ORG forum.
If your XML file has data in it, that means that everything on the WordPress.COM side of things worked properly. We are not equipped to handle the more complex WordPress.ORG (self-hosted WP sites) issues.
