Transfering wordpress to another wordpress
-
I currently have an account with wordpress.com. My host provider has an option to use wordpress as well. Their version is updated and I was wondering if I can download wordpress onto their hosting site, backup my current wordpress and download my site to my hosting wordpress? If I backup my wordpress I have now and download it to another wordpress on my hosting site, is that possible and/or will I need to close out my account with wordpress.com? With there be any interruption when this takes place?
WP.com: Yes
Correct account: YesThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to moderators and staff)

I hope I can add these questions to my original question.
Does it make sense to start a new wordpress on my hosting siteand start over? I can paste my HTML from my old site and transfer it to my hosting wordpress.
If I transfer my files and pages over to my hosting wordpress, would I need to delete the site I’m currently using on wordpress.com? Another words, what happens if I have a website on wordpress.com and the same website on wordpress on my hosting site?”

Hi there,
I’m not sure I understand. To clarify, you are wanting to leave your current website online and available to the public, while at the same time you want to set up a replacement website (in private) here on WordPress.com.
And then once the site here is set up, you want it to seamlessly replace the site you have currently, so the address is the same. Do I have that right?
If so, yes you can fully set up your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.
If your other site is also on WordPress, you can use the WordPress import/export tools to move a copy of your site contents over, so you can get a head start in building your replacement. We have a guide here that shows you how: https://wordpress.com/support/moving-from-self-hosted-wordpress-to-wordpress-com/
When you first create your site we will assign a staging subdomain you can use to get set up in private. When you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, that is when you will want to “connect” or transfer your domain to us.
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

No I currently have a website on wordpress.com. My hosting company has a wordpress option set up on their hosting site.
I want to use my “hosting” websites “wordpress” and stop using wordpress.com.
Currently I’m using 5.6 version on wordpress.com. where my hosting site has a 5.9 version.
I guess to make it easier to understand I want to start over and use wordpress through my hosting company. I can’t backup my files and transfer them over to my hosting site, because it would still be 5.6 version.
What I want to do is start over “fresh” and use my hosting companies “wordpress” program.
I don’t have that many files so what I’m going to do is copy my HTML from wordpress.com and start over on my hosting site wordpress.
My main question is when I start wordpress up on my hosting site with the same domain name, what’s going to happen to my site I’m using through wordpress.com?
I can’t have two wordpress accounts with the same domain website name, can I?
Do I need to cancel my account with wordpress.com and start over with a new wordpress program my hosting company is offering?

Hi there,
Currently I’m using 5.6 version on wordpress.com. where my hosting site has a 5.9 version.
The only site I see in the account you’re using to post here is http://policecrimescom.wordpress.com/? That site is empty, and hasn’t been updated since 2018.
All sites on WordPress.com are always on the latest version of the WordPress software, and all sites, including the one in your account, were upgraded to WordPress 5.9 when it came out on Tuesday this week. We also don’t show the WordPress version number anywhere on WordPress.com, so I don’t think the site you’re speaking of is hosted with us.
Can you please confirm the URL of the site you want to migrate? Once we know that, we can try to point you to the right place to get help with this.

This is where I sign into: https://policecrimes.com/wp-login.php
Does that belong to wordpress.com or .org or is that already my hosting site?
-
Actually I’m with wordpress.org does this make a difference?
Also read my message above.

Okay, that’s not a WordPress.com site, no.
That site is built with the open source WordPress software, made by the community on WordPress.org, and it looks like you’re hosting it with https://www.digitalhost.com/
So please contact support at https://www.digitalhost.com/ directly for help with options to migrate your site away from them.
And for general advice with the version of WordPress you’re using, you can ask the WordPress.org community who makes that software in their forums at https://wordpress.org/support/forums/
