Transfer/Reactivate a Blog

  Hello there!

  I originally set up:

  99clunk.wordpress.com

  and then deleted it, in a stupid spring clean… my bad, I should have read the warnings properly. Has anyone had any luck getting one reactivated?

  So I then thought I would try to register:

  ninetynineclunk.wordpress.com

  But someone else has this address. It doesn’t seem to be being used as there is no content on there.
  I have left a comment on the About page asking the owner if they would be willing to surrender the address but I have had no reply. Is there anything else I could do to contact the owner?

  Any help or advice on this would be great thanks!

  Permanently deleted is just that. So, no, you won’t be able to retrieve/reactivate the deleted site.

  If you contacted the site owner of ninetynineclunk.wordpress.com to ask to transfer the address to you and they haven’t responded, then you’ll just have to use register a different address.

  You could purchase an annually renewable domain name upgrade (not horribly expense even with domain mapping) and then it won’t matter what the underlying WordPress.com address is. More info here: http://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/all-about-domains/

  Thanks for the reply, it is as I thought then.

  Is there any other way of contacting the owner of the other site through the wordpress guys/girls do you know?

  There is no expiration date on blogs unused or otherwise. If you can make contact on your own with the owner of an unused blog then there is a means of a consenting blog owner to transfer the blog to another username account. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account

  In the case that there is no contact information Staff will not breach the privacy policy and provide you with an email address.

  The comment is the only way, unless you could somehow find them using their account name (and the blog might not match the account name) – WordPress.COM will not release any info about an account without a U.S. Court order

  If you are not successful you have two options:

  1. You can register another .wordpress.com blog with a similar name. http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

  2. Or as Jennifer pointed out above you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade and it will not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is.
