Transferred domain and now can’t see or log into wp site
-
Hi there,
I recently transferred my domains dorisjelacic.com and dorisjelacic.ca from Netfirms to Google Domains.
Dorisjelacic.com was linked to my wordpress website. Since transferring the domain, I have been unable to login via my old admin login for the wordpress site, and I also can’t see the website at all (if you visit dorisjelacic.com you’ll see that nothing comes up). I contacted google domains and they said:
Everything here is properly set up to your website, For this kindly contact your website provider where you created your website, then ask for the new updated website record.
Let them know that the website is properly set up and the domain is done with the propagation period. After you get the records, please don’t hesitate us to contact us to help you on your DNS settings.
Can you please let me know why the website is not working and send me the ‘updated website record’ that Google mentioned?
I had to contact you here from this WP account, as my dorisjelacic.com website was created by someone I had working for me six years ago. I’m not even sure which email address they were using to log in, and I can’t reach them using that address anymore.
For me to log in before, I was using a username and password with the following login url:
Thanks for your help,

Hi Doris! So, we won’t be able to do much on our side; that site may have used the free WordPress software, but it did not use our hosting services.
Still, I think I can point you in the right direction.
Transferring a domain registration doesn’t necessarily move your files and data for you. When you transferred out, did you keep your files and data (along with your WordPress installation) hosted with Netfirms? Are you still paying for hosting through them? If so, can you contact them and ask for advice? It may be as easy as updating your domain to point back to their name servers, but they will know more.
Once the domain is properly connected to your hosting, it should start working again.
And, if you’d like to host your site here going forward, you’d be welcome. You’ll just hopefully want to get the existing site working again first so you’ve got files and data to transfer here. We’ll also be better able to advise what plan to use once we can see the site.
Here’s a bit of info on the difference between our hosting services and the free WordPress software:
WordPress.com vs WordPress.org: What’s the Difference?
