transferred to domains to wordpress but they can’t be found on internet
-
We had two websites that pointed to stores at shopify.com. They are sandyburch.com and threeburch.com. We went through the steps and the two domains show up are wordpress.com but when attempting to access via sandyburch.com or threeburch.com they are not found. sandyburch.wordpress.com does present a something is coming page. Threeburch.com somehow got setup as serene-thoughtsofpeaceblog.com. thoughtsofpeaceblog.com is my original blog. I have gone through the steps I can see including changing nameservers.
three questions:
- why doesn’t sandyburch.com connect me to wordpress.com?
- why doesn’t threeburch.com connect me to wordpress.com
- why, when I did the same steps to effect domain transfer did I get two different results. sandyburch.wordpress.com but no threeburch.wordpress.com, instead serene-thoughtsofpeaceblog.wordpress.com. Help is appreciated.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Howdy –
Thanks for taking the time to reach out to us here. I’ve reviewed the account and can see that both of those domains do exist in our system and are connected to your account. This is good news.
The reason you don’t see any sites on the internet with them is because they do not have a hosting plan. Every site needs a domain + hosting plan in order to work on the internet.
I can’t see how the sites were set up before so I’d love it if you can share more details about how the sites supported your business. Since they used Shopify I’m going on the assumption that you were selling products of some kind. What sort of functionality do you need for customers?
Our hosting plans are visible on https://wordpress.com/pricing/ and we can help you find the right option for this project once we know some more details.

Thanks for getting back to us. We seemed to have misunderstood the functionality included with the ‘free’ account. We thought hosting was included when a domain was transferred.
On Shopify sandyburch.com was the store for my wife’s artwork. ThreeBurch.com was our site for household products using designs by both of us. I took a look at Shopify and it was complaining my Cname wasn’t set up for Sandyburch.com. So apparently we are half-way done.
Goal for us is that both sites could be reached by their respective URL’s. We want to use the sites for blogging and display of a small set of products for purchase. Immediately, though, due to some health issues, we just wanted to get the sites in place and work, as time permits, to create the websites. I have a little experience using Elementor a while back.
I am guessing you will say we need the Personal level. I thought the free would work since we already had the domains which have been renewed annually. I have not had to differentiate between domain and hosting. Does one Get Personal cover both sites or is it by domain?
Ultimately, I would like both to be as sandyburch.com is now, which also is sandyburch.wordpress.com. Threeburch ended up somehow as serene-thoughtsofpeace.wordpress.com. Thoughtsofpeace is my blog which I am about to resurrect. threeburch.wordpress.com would be preferable. Of course, we want both to be visible on the www.
When we get this fixed, is wordpress the equivalent of hostgator, etc with regard to hosting?
What do we need to do? Your help is appreciated.

Hi there
Thank you for all the extra info here, it really helps to understand your situation. You covered a lot of ground so I’m going to break your reply up a bit, and try to answer point by point.

I am guessing you will say we need the Personal level. I thought the free would work since we already had the domains which have been renewed annually. I have not had to differentiate between domain and hosting. Does one Get Personal cover both sites or is it by domain?I can understand the confusion. On most traditional hosts there is no concept of a free WordPress site (it’s just not something they offer) and you are required to pay for hosting and a domain up front before you can get started with building anything.
We’re a bit different in that we do have a free option for creating a WordPress site, but free sites are limited in that they must use our provided “wordpress.com” domain, and also show ads to help offset our costs for hosting the site contents.
It is possible to set a custom site address if you upgrade to one of our plans, which you can think of equivalent to hosting costs you find with other providers. For our free sites it’s not possible to set a custom address, but the Personal Plan is a great place to start, and would also automatically turn off the ads we show on free sites so you can maintain a professional appearance.

Firstly I’m sorry to hear that there are some heath issues affecting things here. I’d like to see if we can find the most stress-free way to work things out here so you can focus on that.
It’s definitely possible to set up your own site using our tools, and in most instances you will not need to use custom code or have specific web design skills. We also have plenty of resources to help you get used to working with our tools, and we can discuss those in more detail once things are sorted out with your domains.
Out of curiosity are you wanting to connect your domains back to Shopify temporarily while you get things set up here? Or do you prefer to get simple sites set up here as placeholders, and then take your time in getting things set up once those are in place?
Also you may not be aware of this, but there is a 3rd option you can consider, and that is to have us build your site for you.
If you would like help setting up a custom website you may want to consider our Built By Express program. This service allows you to submit your business information through our project intake form, select your design from our catalog of professionally designed themes, and we’ll create custom layouts for each page of your WordPress.com site and add your content to each of them.
You will receive an email with a link to your finished website within 4 business days and the result is very professional. You can see some examples of recently launched sites here and learn more here:
Let us build your custom 5-page website in 4 business days by answering a few questions and submitting your content. What is Built By WordPress.com Express? Our website-building service is for anyone who wants a polished website fast: small businesses, personal websites, bloggers, clubs or organizations, and more. Answer a few questions, submit your content, and we’ll handle the restThis would be a great way to get some sites up quickly while still maintaining an impressive and professional appearance for your visitors.
Of course, we want both to be visible on the www.
sandyburch.com is parked at the moment but you can create a site by choosing the Add a New Site button here: https://wordpress.com/domains/manage/all/sandyburch.com/edit/sandyburch.wordpress.com
This will get sandyburch.com connected to a fresh WordPress.com site, and give you the option to set up a simple site to get things going. Once you have the initial site set up, please let us know and we will then be able to move threeburch.com so it sends traffic to sandyburch.com for now, and this will make it so serene-thoughtsofpeaceblog.wordpress.com is a separate site again and no longer associated with your transferred domain.
Also we’d love to hear more about your project! Feel free to tell us more about your project, especially some detail about how you envision displaying and selling product on your WordPress.com site. Are you lookin to replicate some of the functionality you had at Shopify? Or was it your plan to use this as an opportunity to simplify things instead of running a full ecommerce site?
Thanks!
