Transferring a blog into a website

  I already have a free wordpress blog and now want to build a website with wordpress. Will my old free blogs transfer into the new site? Don’t want to loose all that work.

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  There is no content transfer involved unless you intend to hire a web host http://wordpress.org/hosting and set up to a self hosted site.

  A blog is a website.

  A blog is a post based website designed for interactive communication. As the posts are frequently updated and appear on the front page of the site it’s very attractive to search engines.

  What most people call a website is merely a page based site that functions as a one way noticeboard. As the structure is page based and as pages are for static content that rarely changes, and as pages do not have RSS feeds, and as others do not backlink to pages, it is not as attractive to search engines as a post based blog structured site is.

  Oh heavens help me… will study this tonight. Just want to build a website for my photography business, but wanted the blogs to be on the back page as they were about photography.

  Hi there,

  You can convert your existing WordPress.com blog into a website, if you want — that way you can keep everything here at WordPress.com. In addition to what timethief mentioned, you can also use the steps in our guide to Set a Static “Home” Page (Front Page) to create a regular front page for your site, with your blog on a separate page of the site.
