Transferring a Blog to Another User – Absolve responsibility?

    Hello,

Just a quick question for you guys. I currently work on a blog with a friend of mine but I would I like to move onto something else. I don’t want the responsibility of owning the blog anymore and was wondering if transferring the blog pretty much made it so I no longer had any connection to the blog anymore.

Why I’m asking this mostly has to do with legal issues. If something is said on the blog that upsets someone in the future or if copyrighted photos are used, I don’t want to be responsible for it.

Do you think it would be better to transfer the blog or to delete it all together?

    Thanks!

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Will the person you transfer the blog to delete you as an Admin and user after you transfer the blog?

I will more than likely asked to be taking off. I’m sure I can remove myself also correct?

  • If you’re the person who created the blog, only staff can remove you from it entirely.

Once they do that there’s no going back – it belongs to the new owner and you no longer have any claim over it.

I have no idea what the legal implications might be, those are just the wp.com policies.

Ding dong! I knew that Staff had to delete the original Admin but forgot. :( Thanks Telly. :)

I guess all I’m worried about is anything that happens in the future with the blog not being attached to me at all. It’s like selling a car and taking off your license plates, you wouldn’t want the new user to be driving around with them on running red lights and speeding.

I suppose I’m just one of those people that when I move on I want to make sure that I’ve moved on for good.

  • Well the new owners can do what they like with the site. There’s no guarantee that they’ll treat it well. Nor that people reading the site will know it’s them and not you.

Oh that’s fine with me. I think I’m just more concerned with copyrighted images being used than anything else.

Just thinking … Excuse me but have you considered there may be some value in exporting out a copy of the blog if you choose to transfer it. That export file would have a date and if after that “happens” then you would be able to illustrate the condition the blog was in when you transferred it.

That’s a good idea. Because there’s also no controlling what they do with your material once the tranfer is made.

    @internetpopular
Here I go again. You mentioned that you were concerned about use of the copyrighted images. I’m not clear if they are your own images or not but if so, then you could watermark them as a deterrent.
