Transferring a Business (Not for Profit) Domain to a WordPress site

    Hi,
I work for a not-for-profit organization that is looking to setting up a WordPress website as opposed to their current communications-run website.
Should the current ‘.ca’ domain name be transferred or mapped?
Is there anything I should be mindful of with a WordPress site vs a Communications firm run site – I want to be sure I’m making the right recommendations for a platform to host a website? The current firm is charging fees for simple text changes.
Do WordPress sites attract e-mail spam / viruses?
    Thanks for any input.
    Cathy

Hi Cathy, First you need to know the differences between WordPress.com and WordPress.org (self-hosted sites) WordPress.org is an open source platform.
You can read more about it here. https://en.support.wordpress.com/com-vs-org/

For both transferring the domain and mapping, you would need a paid plan to do so on WordPress.com. here is the pricing. https://wordpress.com/pricing/

You can add and remove content yourselves in a few easy steps with WordPress.

When it comes to spam and unwanted content you can read through this support docs. https://en.support.wordpress.com/unwanted-comments/
