Transferring A Domain

  Hi! I currently have a site through Wix. I know I can’t transfer the site over to WordPress, but I was thinking that I was still able to transfer my domain? I’m new to WordPress and I’m in the intial steps of trying to set up an account. I’m to the question about transferring my domain if I have one, so I’m trying to see ya’ll have some insight on this. If it’s something I can do after working on getting my WordPress site up and running so I don’t have a lag in having a site up? And also if you knew if there was a fee for transferring? Thanks in advance for the help

  This isn’t completely accurate. You cannot transfer the site, but you can transfer its content, i.e. posts and pages, using our Wix importer:

  You can create a new WordPress.com site without transferring your domain right away, yes.

  All sites on WordPress.com get a free WordPress.com or .blog subdomain when the site is created, that functions just like any regular subdomain, and your site is fully online and accessible at that subdomain (provided you set it to public).

  So you can build your site at that free address, import your content from Wix, even upgrade the site while still using the free address, and only switch the domain over to us once you’re ready.

  And also if you knew if there was a fee for transferring?

  Using your own domain with a WordPress.com site requires that you upgrade to one of our paid plans. Each plan includes one new domain registration or one domain transfer for the first year, and if you transfer your domain, it will also be renewed for an extra year on top of when it’s already registered for on Wix.
