Transferring a Domain
-
I transferred my domain from GoDaddy to WordPress and it says it will be transferred October 18th. Does that mean I can’t work through WordPress to edit the site yet? I know connecting a domain and using GoDaddy was another option but I wanted to transfer everything to WordPress. Thank you any insight you have.
I don’t have a site with WordPress.com yet

Hi there,
Firstly, we’re happy to have you, and the good news is that it’s possible to use your GoDaddy domain to set up a site here right away.
The details are a bit tricky, so I’ll explain: With a new domain is created, it’s not possible to transfer it for 60 days. This is a policy that affects all domain registrars, so I’m guessing that you have a newish domain, and GoDaddy is letting you know it’s too soon to transfer it, due to this restriction.
Luckily though, it’s possible to make a “domain connection” via settings you enter on GoDaddy’s side. This lets you use the domain as your site address here, so you can move forward with your site… you can then transfer the domain later when you are able and it will be a seamless transfer at that point.
You can start a new site here and you will be asked to enter your domain in the setup process. Enter the URL and it will show as unavailable and ask if you are the owner. Confirm you own the domain and then follow the steps on screen to connect it to your site: https://wordpress.com/start/
Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
