Transferring a domain

If I were to use the domain transfer service to move a domain from GoDaddy, would the nameservers remain as they are now so that initially the site and email remain as is (hosted on a GoDaddy VPS)? Or would I need to setup DNS records on wordpress in advance of performing the domain transfer and in anticipation of a nameserver switchover?

    Thanks,
    Matt

  • Hi there,

When you transfer your domain to us it would retain it’s existing settings, and remain connected to your current host. Reading between the lines it sounds like you wish to set up your WordPress.com site in private at a separate address, and only switch the domain when you are ready to “launch” the new site to replace the current one, yes?

If so this is the process we also recommend, and with this in mind you can transfer your domain at any time; a free transfer is included if you choose the yearly billing option for any of our plans, and is an added cost if you choose monthly billing.

For now you can set up your site, and when you are ready to launch it you can let us know and we will walk you through how to correctly connect your domain to ensure the least amount of downtime possible.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.
