Transferring a domain and importing a website from another host

    I currently have a website and custom domain hosted by another provider, but I need to transfer my domain and import the website to WordPress.com. My goals is to create a new website on WordPress.com that looks fresh and modern using one of your themes that I’ve already chosen. I don’t need a blog and have already decided that I need to purchase the Premium plan, as it will serve my needs best. I’m not a blogger and just need a great website. Despite reading articles on both WordPress.com and Wix on the steps to complete to transfer a domain and import an existing website from another provider to WordPress.com, the correct order of the steps is confusing at best and the information seems to be conflicting! Since I haven’t yet created a new website on WordPress.com, I don’t know if I need to create an entire new website first and then transfer my domain my old provider to WordPress.com and then start editing it in the new theme or transfer the domain first. The information from WordPress.com and Wix about how to start/complete the process seems to be conflicting and confusing. Is it possible to speak with a live customer service agent from WordPress on the phone? I don’t have the time to inquire about all this and then wait for answers in the WordPress forums! I’d greatly appreciate your help with this!

    Building the new site, leaving the old one as is, and then connecting your domain as the final step is going to limit the down time experienced.

    You’ll be able to build the site with out connecting your domain. That’s not an issue.

    We have an importing tool that will help you move the content from the old site on to the new one here. After you purchase your hosting plan, the import would be your next step.
