Transferring a domain from another blog software site.

    Hello, I am a new high school newspaper sponsor, and I’ve been considering turning our web platform into a WordPress site (I have a personal WordPress blog of my own, but this post is not regarding my personal site). We already have a domain name registered, but it’s with a different platform at the moment. What’s the easiest way to get that domain transferred over to WordPress? Do I have to call the other place for information about re-registering our domain with WordPress? Or can WordPress take care of that by re-registering the domain through setting up a platform on WordPress?

    I’m new to all this, so I’m not sure what works. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

    Your options are:

    1) Map your domain: 
If you prefer to keep your domain and site at different providers, you will need an upgraded WordPress.com plan on your site in order to map a domain. Each paid plan comes with a free domain credit you can use to either register a new domain, or either transfer or map one you already own.

    2) Transfer your domain to WordPress: 
If you would like to use the domain you own on WordPress.com you can transfer it and manage your site and domain all in one place, with no need to manually configure DNS records at another domain provider – which works out to be the easier option.

    It’s recommended to map the domain first, before transferring it to WordPress. This is because a transfer can take 5 to 7 days to complete. Mapping the domain first allows you to show your site while the transfer is taking place.

    You can also have multiple sites managed under the same account. Each site will remain separate and no content is shared between them. You can also select different plans for each site. Your username will appear across each site on your account.
