Transferring a domain name.

I have a website that has been running for a few years at network solutions. The domain name is registered with them and they host the site as well. However the website builder tool is an absolute nightmare and i would like to switch everything over to wordpress.

I believe I have to setup the site to transfer (from what I’ve researched online) but would transferring negatively affect any SEO benefits I have had from a long standing website? Would it be easier to have my current domain name serve as a landing page fora new website that I would get through wordpress? How would that affect any SEO?

Any help in this matter would be much appreciated.
    Best regards,
    Brandon

Transferring to WordPress.com will likely increase your SEO. Transferring to a freestanding WordPress.org blog may or may not do so depending on whether the URLs of the posts are changed by the transfer. URLs are configurable on Wp.org, which they are not at WP.com.
