Transferring a domain name

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi,
I have a domain through the Hostway web hosting service that I’m trying to map to this new site I’m working on wordpress. I’d like to use wordpress as my platform going forward. When I map the domain do I then cancel the service with the old host ‘Hostway’ and wordpress becomes my new host?

    Thank you.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi @arubalove,

WordPress.com does not permit incoming domain transfer. You can still use your existing domain by using the “Map Your Existing Domain” service. You don’t have to cancel your current domain registration. You would need a Paid Plan to be able to use your domain with your free site on WordPress.com.

A personal plan would be useful for you if you just need to a have a Custom Domain and hosting with your existing free site. You can go to MySites->Plan and buy the Personal Plan. You can then add the domain by going to MySites->Domains and use the support document to Map Your Existing Domain here:

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/

Hope this helps, let me know for any further questions.
    Thanks!
