Transferring a domain to another registrar

Hi.
I previously paid for a domain name through WordPress and let it lapse last month. What I want to do is to be able to transfer the domain name to another registrar and I wasn’t sure if I could transfer it while I still paid for it, or if I had to let it expire so I could buy it up again.
Can someone help me with this?The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Aloha hugomiramontes, You will not be able to transfer an expired domain. You can wait until the domain is available for purchase again, but this is not recommended because somebody could buy it before you. What is the domain you are trying to transfer? It is probably in its redemption period now:
After the grace period ends, your domain enters the redemption period, the length of which can vary. This means the domain name can still be renewed, but there is an $80.00 redemption fee required in addition to the normal renewal cost. (This is standard practice for domain registrars.)
It’s important to note that during the redemption phase, domains can be included in expired-domain auctions, where another party can bid on your domain name. If the domain is claimed by someone else in an auction, you will not be able to renew. If you made a payment in attempt to reclaim the domain out of redemption and were unsuccessful, you will get a refund.

You will need to verify the domain that expired and agree to the $80 in order for them to work on getting it back so you can transfer it.

I think the grace period has ended then. I don’t see it in my Domains anymore, it’s stopped being available, and when I checked it on Google Domains, it says it’s pending deletion. What are my options?

I have added the modlook tag so you can work with a staff member on this. They will need to know what domain you are referring to so they can check on its status.

The good news is you can still try to recover your domain. A $80 redemption fee will added to the regular domain renewal costs ($26).
If you agree to these costs I can generate a payment request for the amount. Once that has been paid, we can start the process of trying to get your domain back. Should the recovery fail after you’ve paid the redemption fee, that fee is refunded in full.
If you do not want to pay the fee, you can wait until the domain is released but you may not be able to get it back if it is purchased at auction during this time.
Please let me know what you would like to do as soon as you can.
If we can recover the domain, I’ll help you with the transfer.

Alright, I’ll do it. But I still want to move to another registrar. I realize now waiting for auction is too risky. I need to try and recover it now.
