Transferring a domain to WordPress – timing ?

    We have a current named domain – that I wish to use – creating a new site using WordPress.com
    I have been looking into tranferring our present domain to WordPress.com and have found https://en.support.wordpress.com/domains/map-existing-domain/
    However – timing is going to be extremely difficult – since, presumably – as soon as we transfer the domain, we will totally lose the existing site and I will have no way of knowing whether the new site will not have any problems – since I will be unable to ‘PUBLISH’ it – until the domain is transferred….. ?

    Hi @ weevie123! No problem. You’re welcome to stage your new site with us before pointing the domain here. That way your current site can stay “live” until your new one is ready.

    Start by creating your site with the plan of your choice:
    https://wordpress.com/plans

    https://en.support.wordpress.com/five-step-website-setup/

    And then just avoid using the domain options until you’re ready. Then you can either transfer the domain or map it to our servers.
