Transferring a free domain from a canceled plan

  • Unknown's avatar

I purchased a paid plan which came with a free domain. I then changed direction, canceled my plan, and received a refund.

The domain is no longer accessible to me however. Is it possible to pay for the domain so that i can transfer it away?

  • Hi there, canceled domains aren’t released immediately, and depending on the domain, it can take anywhere from a few days to more than a year before it will be available to buy again.

In this specific case, we have a few options for you to regain control over the domain:

Wait: You can wait about five days from registration for the domain to be released. So long as no one else buys it before you do, you may be able to purchase it again with another provider.

Repurchase the Domain: We can send an invoice and restore the domain. You’ll be able to point it to a new host as soon as it’s restored, then transfer the registration after 60 days.

Repurchase a Plan: To host your site here instead, please buy a plan, skip the domain option, and update us here.

Thanks so much for the reply! We’d love to repurchase the domain. Could you please issue an invoice?

  • Ok, I have sent a payment request for the total of $18 to the email address on your account.

Once the payment is sent, please reply here to let us know, and we will recover kmlaserworks.com.

Thank you! We were able to complete the payment of $18. Please let me know what the next step will be.

  • Hi there, I can confirm we received the payment today. Unfortunately, it came too late, so I have refunded it.

The domain was returned to the public market on May 8 and can now be registered normally as a new domain: https://wordpress.com/support/domains/register-domain/
