Transferring a mapped domain to another WordPress account

  • Unknown's avatar

My brother Anthony Hadeed transfered a WordPress mapped domain (simplyblessed.com) that he owned and managed under his WordPress account (email visible only to moderators and staff) to my WordPress account (email visible only to moderators and staff). He was able to initiate the transfer of the mapped domain to my account, but the blog address for simplyblessed shows up under my WordPress Dashboard as amjhadeed.wordpress.com. I purchased the Premium package from WordPress, and all I want to achieve is to completely own and be able to manage the mapped domain simplyblessed.com. When I goes try to map the domain simplyblessed.com to my blog, it says that domain is already mapped to another blog.

We need your help to resolve this as soon as possible,
    Najet Hadeed

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

    Hi there!

You’ll need to transfer the domain mapping you currently have to your other site. You can do this through the dashboard of amjhadeed.wordpress.com and going to Store > My Upgrades. Under the Domain Mapping upgrade, you’ll see ‘Transfer to another site.’

Let me know if I can help with anything else!

    Shawna,

Thanks for your response. My brother had originally done what you had suggested, and I was still getting the blog address showing up as amjhadeed.wordpress.com. This morning I noticed that I now have two domains showing up under my Admin console:
    (1) simplyblessed.com
    (2) amjhadeed.wordpress.com

So I have requested a cancellation of the amjhadeed.wordpress.com domain, so once this has been cancelled and deleted, I should be all set to go.

    Hi there!

The wordpress.com address is an internal address that was created when the blog was created.

If you wish to change your WordPress.com address, you can do so by following these instructions:

    http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/

This is purely for your benefit, as the WordPress.com name change will be invisible to the visitors to your site as long as you have the domain mapping upgrade.

If you ever decide to no longer use the domain simplyblessed.com, your site will still be available at amjhadeed.wordpress.com.

Does that clarify things? Please let me know if you have any other questions.

    Shawna,

That’s prefect. I was able to change the internal WordPress address from amjhadeed.wordpress.com to najethadeed2013.wordpress.com, but as you rightly pointed out, external users only see the mapped domain simplyblessed.com.

    Thanks for your help,
    Anthony
