Transferring and exisitng site and domain to WP.

Does this mean that if we choose this option that we can start maintaining our site on your platform immediately??

Hi there,
You will absolutely be able to maintain your site with us as soon as you transfer both your site and domain. For instructions on how to get this started, please visit our support pages here:

So if we transfer our site to your new home, will the site look and function the same way it does now, to our customers, or will something change? We are currently being hosted on Yahoo Small Business using Site Solutions.
-
Can/should we use the WP import tool to migrate our site from Yahoo Small Business/Site Solutions or do we need to consider another tool from your list?
-
Hi there,
To confirm, this is WordPress site? If so, you should be able to download an XML file and use the WordPress import tool in order to transfer the site. In order to move your content from one WordPress.com site to another, please visit our support pages on exporting and importing your content.
Let me know if you have any questions.
Thanks!

No, this is not a WP site. It was developed and hosted by Yahoo Small Business, using their Site Solution product. My understanding the only option now is for us to open up a new development url, probably rwp.com on WP, take a month or so to develop our new site , then convert to realwarphotos.com (our core production website) and launch, replacing the yahoo version. We will decide on selecting a hosting service then. Sound reasonable??

Hi there,
Indeed reasonable. That is not an issue – what you could do is create a site with a free WordPress.com blog address. You are assigned a
.wordpress.comor a.home.blogsubdomain whenever you create a site with WordPress.com, so you can just use that as the domain as you build the site and determine whether or not this is the platform you want to use. The site starts off private until you are ready to launch it.Once you are done developing the site, you can make the decision to transfer the domain over:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/incoming-domain-transfer/
map an existing domain:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/map-existing-domain/
Or even creating a new one:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/register-domain/
Hope this helps,
